Getting Organized Part 2 - The Closet

I told you guys that I'm a huge procrastinator. I posted part 1 of getting organized in March! It's now mid-May and I'm finally getting around to organizing my closet. It was a whole day's worth of work, but I finished it! I put together my shoe racks and everything!

I have a huge garbage bag full of stuff that I'm going to donate as well as a large pile of nicer items that I'm going to sell. I still have two more dressers to go through and once I've completely gone through everything I'll list the items that I'm selling on here.

I don't know if I've really been helpful with any worthwhile organization tips. Probably not. However...just know this....even the biggest procrastinators can get stuff done...when they set thier mind to it....and wait 2 months before starting...

Vintage Wednesday #29

Ahoy sailor! This week for Vintage Wednesday I'm wearing my amazing sailor dress. The city that I live in has a huge boating community, so it works out perfectly! I thought about going down to the nautical mile and taking pictures, but I don't have my car right now so I would have to carry my tripod and supplies down to the lake. Usually I would welcome the opportunity for a good walk, but I have a huge list of stuff that I'm trying to get done today and that would have easily eaten up 2-3 hours of my time. Fear not, I already have an idea for another nautical themed outfit to wear for a shoot in the nautical mile!







The label on the dress is kind of hard to read, but I think it says, "Sayberry". I believe it's late 60's/early 70's. The material is polyester. Isn't the little anchor pocket adorable? I love it.



Usually I would style this dress up with my red polka dot belt, red heels, and red lipstick. Today however I decided to tone it down a little so it doesn't look too "costume-y". One thing I've come to realize over the years of wearing vintage clothing is that you don't have to style it the exact same way that it would have been worn 30-40 years ago. So instead of reaching for my go-to red belt I decided to switch things up with a floral belt, floral tights, and my steve madden wedges. For my make-up I used a brown liquid liner instead of my usual black and opted for a soft coral lipstick in place of bright red.











In other news - I have finally started the daunting task of cleaning my closet! I've been saying I that I was going to do it for the past three months! I am such a procrastinator. Today I got up and just started pulling everything out of my closet. The kitties are having a blast with all of the clothes everywhere and free access to the closet (they usually aren't allowed in the closet). I made a whole list of what I want to get accomplished today and so far I'm on I'm doing pretty well! For the clothes that I don't want I think I'm going to list them on here first and if no one is interested in purchasing them I'll put them up on Chictopia for their chic swap feature.

On a Gloomy Monday

Whoa, it was really windy outside today! Just look at my crazy hair, haha! I was able to snap these while I was out running errands before work today. There's a bar near my house that closed down, so I snuck around back to take these. I thought the grey building would be perfect for reflecting the grey, gloomy day that it was.









I think I'm getting a little better at taking pictures with my tripod in public. I did get a few stares, but I just kept on going! The dress I'm wearing is from my salvation army trip from when Jon and I were last in Chicago. The sleeves are so huge and flowy; they are perfect for a windy day with the breeze showing off their volume. (Although a warmer windy day would have been ideal!) I also love the baby doll cut of the dress and the material is so soft. It was definitely a great find!











So a lot has been going on this past week. My dad went to the hospital for having trouble breathing. It turns out that he has lung cancer. At this point I don't know how far a long, what type, or how severe it is. He has been a smoker almost his entire life and has always claimed that smoking doesn't cause lung cancer. When I was a kid I made no smoking signs and put them around the house and tried to get my parents to quit, but it didn't work. My mom has always smoked on and off, but my dad smokes about 3 packs a day. The most upsetting part - he's still smoking!!! Right now I'm really angry about it. I am having a really hard time being sympathetic when he is still smoking after being diagnosed with lung cancer. I'm sure I'll get to a point where I'll get sad about it, but right now I just can't stop being angry.

Not everything is bad news though...we have a new member to our family! A new doggie! She's been a beam of light during this rough week.
