Chicago Day 3

Our last day in Chicago was beautiful! It was 60 degrees and sunny so we had lunch in grant park then walked around by the lake and millennium park. It was so nice to just relax and take in the fresh air.

Afterwards we split up and I went to an art event at merchandise mart called, "Art Chicago". Jon didn't go because he was going to go to a concert later that night with some of his friends, so he ended up going to the zoo and spending time with the monkeys. The art fair was amazing! There was just so much to see. I'll share more about it at a later date. I'm feeling a bit under the weather today, so I'm going to keep things on the shorter side.

I stayed at Art Chicago for about 3 hours then met up with a few of my chicago friends for dinner and a dance party. It was a fun night, I'm so happy I was able to see so many old friends over the few days that I was there.

Our train left yesterday morning at 7:30 to take us back to Michigan. It was sad to have to leave once again. Although I am starting to feel a little bit of a distance from the city. Last time we were there in October it really felt like we still lived there. This time felt a little different. It's sad, but I guess it just means we're ready to move on to the next adventure.

The Awards Ceremony

Day 2 of the Chicago trip.....

Well....Jon and I got up at the leisurely hour of 1PM, got ready and headed out. We went to Ashland and Clybourn to check out my favorite thrift store. I walked out with quite a few good items. Jon was fairly patient with me wanting to look thorugh everything, haha. After the thrift store we went to a really cute toy store on Clybourn called, "Toys Et Cetera". We picked up a cool animation kit for Jon's cousin who is having her first communion on Sunday. She has a pretty wild imagination so I think she'll enjoy it.

So after the toy store we just walked around a little bit. We went to the apple store and checked out the ipad 2. It is a lot of fun - however Jon and I are still both in agreement that it's just a really big iphone. After that we just went back to our friend's apartment, had some lunch then got ready for the awards ceremony.

The ceremony was attached to the student film awards, so there were a series of shorts being shown along with the ceremony.

it turns out....

I am so proud of him! The script he submitted is called, "Senior Moments". It actually tells the story of how we met!! (I told him I want Jenna Fischer to play me, but he thinks she's too old. So now I want Zooey to play me!) The main story is more about the senior citizens that Jon works with on a daily basis and what amazing lives so many of them have lived. My husband is such a talented writer! I know it seems like I'm obligated to say that being his wife, but I really mean it. He has such an amazing way with words and is a really compelling story teller. I couldn't be more proud! ;)

I was going to wear my new vintage dress with the hearts, but the arm holes are too small! I can get it on, but it's really uncomfortable. I usually lose weight during the summer, so we'll see if it ends up fitting. If not I'll probably put it in the vintage shop. It's so cute, someone has to give it a good home!

In the Windy City

So day one of our Chicago trip was a bit of a lazy one. Our train got in around 1PM. We're staying with a friend who lives in an amazing loft apartment in the west loop. When we got to the apartment Jon and I took a long nap. (We didn't sleep the night before and we didn't get good seats on the train so sleeping during the trip didn't work too well.)

Then we walked around Greek Town a bit and had an amazing dinner. Mmmmmmmm...saganaki and spanakopita! After filling our bellies with delicious food we went to my old work place to watch The Greatest Movie Ever Sold. It was nice seeing some of my old co-workers. I've been having a recurring dream where I'm working at both theatres simultaneously and have to take the train back and forth between Detroit and Chicago everyday to get to work. It's a really stressful dream! So I kind of hope that by going back I've filled whatever sort of unconscious need I've been having and can finally sleep easy, haha.

Anyway the movie was really good. It's by Morgan Spurlock the guy who did Super Size Me and it's about advertising and product placement in the entertainment industry. It's interesting because it's a documentary about making a documentary that is unfolding as the movie progresses. I thought it was clever.

Today is Jon's screen writing award ceremony! I really hope he wins for his screenplay. He really deserves it. During the day we are probably just going to walk around a bit and I'm going to hit up my favorite thrift store.

I forgot the point and shoot camera at home, so we've been taking iPhone pictures so far which has given me an excuse to play around more with the hipstamatic app. I love the way every pictures turns out with the app. Jon kept making fun of me on the train because I was taking pictures of just about everything, haha. It was perfect though because since it was so rainy out all of the photos turned out really eerie and interesting.

Vintage Wednesday #27

This week for Vintage Wednesday things are going to get a little more intimate....I'm apologize if you feel like we don't know each other well enough yet for you to see me in vintage 1960's chiffon nightie! (Okay, it's only kind of new...I got it about a month ago...)

I was needing something new to sleep in for the summer and I started thinking about how awesome it would be to have a vintage nightie. It was seriously a great decision on my part - I feel like a princess every time I go to bed! I think the chartreuse looks really good with my hair and skin tone also. It's actually a two piece outfit. There's the nightie part and then there's also a sheer night jacket/peignoir that goes over it. The label says, "Lisette". They made really adorable nighties - seriously, do a google search and you'll see how adorable their stuff is.

Not only does it make me feel like a princess, but it also makes me feel more grown up. Sleeping in jammie pants and a t-shirt is what I've been doing since I was about 12. It was time for an upgrade, haha.

I think these photos came out really well. Not to mention my kitties proved to be great models during this photo shoot. I always have a lot of fun setting everything up, but then having to put everything away afterwards is kind of a pain. It's worth it though!

Oh and guess what? Yep, that's right I made a video to accompany the photos, how did you know?

I hope you've enjoyed this week's edition of Vintage Wednesday, check back next week for more vintage fun!

Special thanks to NES, Panthro, Izzy and Penelope for being such great models and actors!

Chiffon Nightie: Lisette, Vintage

Gold Bracelet: H&M
Cream Bracelet: Gift

I'm leaving for my Chicago trip in just a few short hours! I'll probably sleep the whole way there. That's the nicest thing about taking the train - you fall asleep for a few hours and then magically you're there. I love it.

Boring and Blah

The majority of my day was long, dull, and boring. Work was really slow and uneventful (the exact opposite of how my last day at work went). On top of that it's been nothing but grey and rainy outside. All day long it has looked like the earth is suffering through a lengthy's really been bringing me down.

The evening has been much better though. I got my hair trimmed! My head feels so much lighter, haha. Okay, I didn't actually get much done - just got the bangs and layers trimmed, but I can feel a difference.

When I got home I got started on some laundry (yay for being productive!) and worked on my next Vintage Wednesday post. I'm really excited to share it with you guys on Wednesday, I think it's a good one. Do you ever take photos in advance? Personally I find it helpful when it's a weekly feature like Vintage Wednesday to have everything set up already. Usually I do some final editing and add the text on Wednesday, but I'll have everything else set up. Regular outfit photos I usually take the day of though. However if I miss a day sometimes it will give me an opportunity to have a few ready to go for the week. Haha, I love blogging so much, it really is something I'm glad I got into, but sometimes it does feel a bit like a second job. A second job I love, but still...I put a lot of work into it!

There's something about the lighting in my living room that gives my photos a soft focus. I like it. It's just interesting because I don't have this problem anywhere else in the house.

Happy Easter You Funny Bunny

To those of you who celebrate it - happy Easter! To those of you who don't - happy Sunday!

I have a confession to make - this is actually my outfit from yesterday. I know, I know I'm such a disappointment - no cute Easter dress this year. I didn't have time to think about what to wear today because I had to pack for my sister-in-law's house as soon as Jon and I got back from work. So we'll just pretend that this is what I'm wearing today, deal? Cool.

Jon and I are at his parents house right now. We're staying here until the afternoon then Jon is going to work and I'm going to my aunt's house. I'm looking forward to yummy food and searching for Easter baskets later today! Even more so I'm looking forward to the chocolate in the Easter baskets! Easter candy is seriously my favorite. Mmmmmmmm......cadburry mini eggs!

I hope you all have an amazing day!

There's only four more days until Jon and I leave for our Chicago trip! Oh I am so excited! I can't wait to see my friends and visit all the old haunts!!! We're going because Jon was nominated for a screen writing award. He won 2nd place in the same contest two years ago, so I'm really hoping he wins again. That would be AMAZING.
