Eating Snow Flakes with Plastic Forks...and a Paper Plate of Course...

Jon and I were suppose to go over to my sister's today for a michigander game of Euchre and a sibling guitar hero battle, except this is what we woke up to today:



Way to ruin all of the fun Michigan. I tried to get Jon to play in the snow with me, but that didn't work either. The most I could get out of him was getting him to put on his coat and boots to take these photos. So instead we are staying in tonight and focusing on our artwork. I like days when we're both working on creative stuff together. Even if we're working on separate projects it feels so good to have that creative connection with another person.

I almost have all of the illustrations done for the youth fashion illustration job I'm applying to. I think I may have taken too long to get everything together, but I'm still going to send it out anyway - maybe they'll have an opening over the summer? I'm hoping to get everything printed/copied/scanned tomorrow and once that's done I'll make sure to share them with you!







Oh this floral dress really takes me back. I've had it since my senior year of high school...9 years ago...(oh boy I'm getting old.) I got it from Urban Outfitters in Ann Arbor. I remember I fell in love with the light, airiness of it. However I had left my credit card in my car so I wouldn't buy anything. Well...peer pressure set in and my friends encouraged me to go back to the car to get my card. I'm glad I did. This dress and I have been through a lot together...first dates...walks along the lake...movies...summer nights...and now a chilly winter day with my husband!





This blazer is one of my favorite outerwear items! A friend gave it to me because it didn't fit her right. The deep purple color is so perfect with the gold piping! Also the embroidery on it is so beautiful.

Speaking of beautiful has anyone seen the movie Biutiful yet? It just came out at my theatre, but I haven't had a chance to see it yet. I may try to go tomorrow before work. I've heard it's really good, but really depressing.

New Hair + New Nail Polish

Yesterday I dyed my hair and did my nails. A very girly evening indeed. No major changes. MAJOR CHANGES. Haha, sorry. Jon and I have been watching a lot of How I Met Your Mother lately.

Anyway, the hair is a little lighter and a bit brighter. I think it turned out really well. My roots were getting really out of control.





Also I painted my nails this really cool color that's like a purple/grey mix. I think it looks sophisticated. Seeing as I'm going to be painting like a mad woman this month it was a bit pointless to paint my nails, but I was getting tired of them not having any color to them.

Vintage Wednesday #17

Today for Vintage Wednesday I'd like to share another favorite dress of mine. This is one of my favorite dresses to wear in the winter because of the shockingly bright colors. The end of winter is always so dull and grey, so I say why not dress up as bright as possible? I always get a ton of compliments when I wear this dress, but at the same time I get just as many "what is she wearing?!" stares. I love it. I have to admit that sometimes I get a small thrill from turning heads with my outfits. Not in a conceited, 'ohhhh people are looking at me' way. I mean in a, 'wow this pattern has made an impact on someone today' way. I always enjoy when people come up to me and tell me what my dress reminds them of/makes them think about.

I think the dress may be handmade as it doesn't have a label on the inside.

I decided to pair the dress with my new vintage hat and a pink coat that I thirfted many years back.














Then I went on a super secret adventure down a long hallway.
























And I wore some accessories.








You know what makes this dress even more amazing?



It has a flower petal collar! I love it!


During the photo shoot NES started to misbehave...






But then he just started being cute.

P.S. The patch on the coat is a giraffe. I tried to iron the coat once and didn't realize that it was a flammable material. Instead of ironing it I managed to burn a hole in it. So I put a patch over the burn mark.

Storm's a Com'n...

Yay! My computer is working again! The charger broke two days ago and I've been completely internet-less. Okay...that's not entirely true...there's Jon's iPhone and the internet connection through the Wii...but I haven't been able to update the blog this weekend because Apple builds crap chargers. Don't get me wrong - I love Apple and I love my Mac book to death, but their chargers always break. This is our third charger in just over two years and don't even get me started on how many times Jon's iPhone charger has broken...grrr!!!! Argh. Okay, phew. Now that's out of my system and I can move on....

Last night I went to a (very late) holiday party for my work. It was a lot of fun. Jon and I stuffed ourselves full of yummy food, played apples to apples, and shot the bull with fellow employees. I wore my awesome Potter/Bowie shirt for the occasion. I actually took these pictures when it was just starting to get dark, but my camera decided it wanted it to be night...so here I am yesterday traipsing through a dark wintery night:







Today I got the computer fixed like I said I now I'm about to go work on some artwork for a job that I'm applying to. Eeeeekkk!!! I would be so thrilled if I got this job! It's for teaching fashion illustration to children and young teens. My goal is to have everything mailed out by tomorrow. Oh that would be such a great job! Oh and here's some photos I took of today's outfit:














It's 17 degrees outside, but I still braved the cold for this blog. Hehe. Fashion bloggers can be pretty hardcore sometimes. It's suppose to start snowing again tonight and by the time it stops on Wednesday we are going to be left with an additional foot of snow. I feel like it has been an extra snowy winter this year. I'm ready for it to be over. However we have to get through February first. Ugh. I hate the month of February so much. I think it should just be taken off of the calender. It has nothing going for it. Oh and don't you dare say...'well...there's Valentine's Day..." because we both know that even if you have a partner Valentine's Day is really lame. I want my husband to buy me flowers because he loves me, not because he's obligated to. Okay, back to February...it's grey, it's slushy, it's still freezing outside, and nothing exciting happens to make up for it.

I am excited for March though because at least when March starts you have the promise and excitement of spring just ahead. Plus you usually get a few warm days here and there. One thing I like better about living in the Detroit area over living in Chicago is that Spring comes a lot sooner here. Sometimes in Chicago I'd still be wearing my winter coat into the end of May.

Haha, okay I'm done being a grump now. I just really loathe February. :)
