Mini Mega Movie Thursday

Yesterday Jon and I went to see The King's Speech and Somewhere. We thought that we were going to see Rabbit Hole also, but it wasn't playing yet. So, instead of Mega Movie Thursday it was Mini Mega Movie Thursday, which was still nice.

The King's Speech was amazing! It was so good. I highly recommend it. I loved the cinematography. All of the shots were perfectly set up, but then one or two things would be slightly askew. Jon felt that the style really worked well with the building up of Colin Firth's character, King George VI. I couldn't agree more. Also, the scene where he is swearing is hilarious! Loved it! Jon and I both gave it a solid 4 out of 5 stars. (Jon judges movies on a 5 star system, 4 stars means it was a great movie. The 5th star is there for movies that completely push the 4 star boundary and are so good that they need their own category. Movies that will remain classics forever. Jon said he might bump this one up to 5, but he's still thinking about it.)

Somewhere was good. It wasn't nearly as great as The King's Speech. I loved The Virgin Suicides and Lost in Translation. I think Sofia Coppola is a great director and I love how down to earth she is in interviews, but Somewhere never reached past the "good" mark. It made me smile, occasionally I laughed, and certain parts were quite touching. Overall the movie was a bit dry though. I enjoy movies that are slow and take their time, giving you a chance to meditate on the themes and characters. However, a film still needs some spark to it. This one had some, but not enough to merit a "great" from me. 3 out of 5 stars.

I didn't get a chance to take pictures before the sun went down, so I snapped these quickly when I got home at about 3:30 AM. What a night. It was fun. I love date night with Jon!

Winter Color Blocking

For those of you in the northern hemisphere who are also experiencing awful snow storms: fear not! I'm now updating my blog from my warm bed with my cuddly kitties keeping me company. I only braved the arctic temperatures for a few minutes to snap these photos. My neighbors were all out shoveling their snow all bundled up and red faced and there I was - no coat, taking pictures of myself with my tripod. Haha, I'm completely convinced that they think I'm crazy.

I'm so happy that I've finally gotten a chance to wear this adorable dress! Jon's parents got it for me for Christmas and with working so much I just haven't had a chance to style it until now. I love the way the colors are broken up on the dress and also it is so comfortable! It's perfect for a day of working on sketches and cuddling kitties.

Jon's parents also got me this lovely bracelet for Christmas. I love the wood piece in the middle and all of the little details!

I hope you all are having a great Wednesday! Stay warm and if you have a pet - make sure to cuddle them! It makes getting through the winter a little bit easier!

Tomorrow Jon and I are going out for Mega Movie Thursday - I'm sooooo excited!!! We are going to see The King's Speech, Rabbit Hole, and Somewhere. Eeeekkk! It's going to be a fun night. Seeing free movies is the best. ;)
