Polyvore Winter Date

I've been working all day yesterday and today and I'll be at work all day tomorrow, so I haven't had any time to get dressed outside of my work uniform. However, I thought I'd share some more polyvore fun! For these sets I thought of things I'd wear out on a wintery date with my husband.

Watching the lastest indie flick...

A trip to the art museum...

Viewing an ice sculpture festival...

A fancy pants dinner...

Cuddling at home with hot cocoa and kitties...

12 Drummers Drumming

On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love gave to me...twelve drummers drumming...

Well, this is it! My final look for the 12 days of Christmas!!!

(above image from google)

I seriously had so much fun with this project. I am so happy that Lauren of Sparrow and Urchin came up with it and encouraged others to join in. I had a bit more time with the earlier pictures to be more creative. The last few weren't thought out as much because of work and life being busy and what not. Regardless I hope you've all enjoyed these posts and much as I have!

Oh! Also, today I wore my new hat from the thrift store and I felt like a femme fatale the whole time I was outside! In my head I was definitely in some film noir movie from the 40's. It was awesome.

Eleven Pipers Piping

On the 11th day of Christmas my true love gave to me...eleven pipers piping...

Sooooo...I was going to be all crafty and make a bagpipe out of cardboard for this shoot, but I was out all day from 12-11PM. I still have to do the dishes and sort the mail before bed, so there just wasn't going to be enough time. :(

So, here is my piper outfit minus the pipe:

In this one I'm pretending to be holding a bagpipe, haha:

Part of the reason that I was out all day is that I was out on a major thrift store hunt. I was trying to find a small bookshelf for our office closet and of course I had to check out the clothes before leaving each store. I really hit the jackpot! I just love my loot! I'm pretty much set for clothes until spring now. Most of the shirts that I got were only $1!!!

New coat! The purple one that I normally wear has lost all of its buttons, so this one should hold me over until I sew them back on. I love the huge over sized buttons on this new coat.

Two piece skirt and jacket. Lately I've really been loving two pieced garments. I bought a dress with matching coat a few weeks ago and now this!

I love the collar on this blouse. On its own, it's a bit old-lady-ish, but under a dress it will look so cute!

Three pairs of tights for $1.50 total! It's hard to tell in the photo, but the navy and purple pairs are shimmery.

A lovely floppy felt hat; right on trend with my fellow bloggers!

These shoes were actually from Target, not the thrift store. $4.98 a pair!!!

A little short sleeved sweater. How cute with a knee length skirt?

A lace shirt. I've been wanting one for awhile now. It's a little big, but I'm going to wear it tucked in.

Pretty new scarf! I love the color and pattern!

A casual tee. Sometimes you need a pretty tee to wear with a pair of skinny jeans and flats.

I know, this shirt has a lot of pattern and bright colors. I love the boldness of it. I want to pair it with a mini skirt and opaque tights.

The color of this shirt is the perfect mauve/dusty rose mix. The slouchy fit will work nicely with casual outfits.

I was so excited about this jacket! The tag says "All That Jazz, A Chorus Line Company". This jacket belonged to a chorus girl! It's had a very long, wild, and interesting life. If it could talk I'm sure it would have amazing stories to tell.

I'm not sure if I'm cool enough to pull off the super embellished beaded shirt or not. But I'm sure going to try! After I take out the mad shoulder pads that is.

That's it! What a good haul, right?

Also, I have to add this picture of Jon and NES from last night. It's so adorable!!!

Ten Lords a Leaping

On the tenth day of Christmas my true love gave to me...ten lords a leaping...

(above image found on google)

The jacket in these photos is another costume piece from the opera house that I mentioned in yesterday's post. This baby also lives in my prop bin, ready to be used at a moment's notice. I couldn't do any leaping because of a back injury that I have, but I think the jacket makes me look lord-ish, right?

View more leaping lords on Lauren's blog. I know I've already said this, but this project has been so much fun. I'm kind of sad that there's only two more days left. I'm so glad that Lauren came up with this idea!

Ohhh!!! Guess what, exciting news! The art show that I've mentioned here and there finally has a date! March 1st!! My plan is to finish my paintings by the end of January and then use February for getting together flyers, prints, pricing info, etc. I'm really excited about this! Sometimes I get into these ruts where I feel like I'm not being creative enough, so this will help to keep me on my toes.

Nine Ladies Dancing

On the ninth day of Christmas my true love gave to me...nine ladies dancing...

A good friend of mine from art school gave me this dress. Isn't it amazing? It came from the Chicago Civic Opera House. I guess they were selling old costumes and props that they weren't using anymore. It's loaded with mirrors, metal pieces, and rhinestones. It's extremely fragile though. Every time I put it on (which must have been less than five times) it tears a little bit more. It has a permanent home in my prop box so that it will be ready to use for projects like this. I tied it up higher in the front (it's actually a floor length dress) and added some scarves to give it more of a belly dancer/harem girl feel. (This was my interpretation, I wasn't trying to be 100% accurate, I hope I have not offended anyone.)

(The five images above are from google, I know the ladies directly above are tap dancing and don't quite fit with my theme, but their outfits are just so darn cute!!! They do fit in with the nine ladies dancing theme!)

Here are some close-ups of my make-up:

Here's a peek at the outfit that I wore today to see True Grit with my family:

Pretty simple, but cozy for an afternoon out in the winter. I loved True Grit! Maddie's outfit was great. I watched the original True Grit (1969) on TV about a week or two ago. They are both great movies. The story itself is fairly simple, but the characters are really what is at the heart of the movie. I love listening to their bantering with their southern drawl. Maddie is one tough talkin' little lady. I highly recommend it!
