Vintage Wednesday #23

I may be getting ahead of myself just a little bit (especially since it just dropped back down to 30 degrees in Michigan!), but this week for Vintage Wednesday I wanted to share some rock'n vintage bathing suits and their contemporary counterparts. I know a lot of ladies have quite a few bathing suits, but I on the other hand am actually pretty utilitarian when it comes to swim suits - I have a purple paisley patterned one-piece and a blue and white striped bikini. This year I think I may be ready for an upgrade. With so many vintage-inspired options available right now, it's going to be difficult to pick just one!

Adele Mara, I adore the striped pattern on the swimsuit.

Ann Baxter, I think the high waisted bottoms are so figure flattering!

Ava Gardner, Again with the high waisted bottoms and look at the adorable top piece!

Claudia Cardinale, Look at how flattering the color blocked shapes make this one piece.

Joan Collins, Love the way the top twists (not sure what it's called) and the horizontal stripes. What a mega babe!!!

Janet Leigh, Love this swimsuit minus the flower detail in the center. I wanted to include it for the super cute swim cap that she's holding though!

Jill St. John, Eeeekkk, love the polka dots! So cute and playful!

Jeanne Crain, Again the color blocking on this beauty makes it so flattering! I also love the colors of the blanket that she's lying on.

Marilyn Monroe, The plain white swimsuit is so chic and is the perfect fit for a curvy lady.

The frilly skirt-like bottoms add a perfect feminine touch!

Blonde bombshells in stunning red!

The individual details on each of these make them so unique and chic!

Both of these are so feminine and delicate looking. I love the scallop detail on the right suit.

The gingham deatil, the bow on top, the hat, THE CAMERA! Major swoon.

The rusty orange/red color of these swimsuits is so amazing and looks great with the fair skin of the models.

Everyone has fun in vintage!

At first I thought the model was wearing a dress, but on closer inspection it looks like little shorts. Who knew swimwear could look so fancy?

Looking awesome in patterns!

Super groovy op-art swimwear! The one on the left is my favorite, but I also adore the little hat that is attached to the one in the middle!

Now for some contemporary lovelies that you can purchase to look your vintage best this summer!!!

Top Shop

Urban Outfitters

This one is not so much a vintage cut, but the colors remind me of the pastel tones of vintage beach photography:

Couldn't find the stores or brands for these last three. If you know please tell me!

Last year when Jon and I went on the Royal Caribbean cruise we attended a bathing suit fashion show! They modeled bathing suits from different decades and showed a video that detailed the history behind the swimwear. I don't think I ever posted these photos, so enjoy!

I hope that you've enjoyed this week's edition of Vintage Wednesday! Check back next week for more vintage fun!
