Enter The Void

Jon and I had a late night date yesterday. One of the great things about working at a movie theatre is the free movies. At the theatre I work at we do employee screenings late at night the day before they open. So, Jon and I went to see Enter the Void.

I didn't get a chance to put much thought into my outfit because I had been at work until 11, so I only had time to change quickly once I got home. I just swapped out my work shirt for a black and purple tee and added a necklace and a sweater. I wore my new boots again. I just love them so much!! They are the most comfortable pair of boots I've ever owned. So nice! The only downfall is I feel that they don't look right unless I'm wearing a skirt that hits me above the knee. Otherwise they look too bulky. Other than that they are perfect.





Jon and I both really liked Enter the Void. If you're in the mood for a trippy art film I'd recommend it. It's really unlike anything you've ever seen before and it sort of serves as a type of meditation on what life after death is like within the world of the film. Here's the trailer:

Vintage Wednesday #12

I was at Lost and Found Vintage in Royal Oak a few weeks ago with my mom and we were looking through these old vintage photographs that they were selling for $1 each. I fell in love with this one of a little girl and she bought it for me:



The idea of selling vintage family photos is slightly strange to me. I can't imagine 50 years from now someone buying my childhood photos for $1 each. Regardless of the strange factor, they are so beautiful and aesthetically pleasing. They capture an essence that digital cameras just can't regardless of how advanced they get or how many filters you apply. They just can't compete with the romanticism of film.

I look at this photo and I have to wonder what was going on when it was taken. Who is the girl looking at? Who is photographing her? What happened that day that was affecting her mood?





I like to think that it's early May and it's her birthday. Spring is starting to take over full time. The sun is warm, but there's a slight chill in the air. She has picked out her favorite frock and shiny patent leather shoes to celebrate her special day. Her father snaps a photo of the birthday girl that he is so proud of while her siblings tease her off to the side. Her mother is inside frosting her cake and preparing the candles. It's mid-afternoon, but the kids will be playing late into the evening while the parents sip their wine and reminisce about their own childhoods.


Well, that's what I think anyway. Anyone else have any suggestions as to what's going on in the photo? Respond in the comments section if you do, I'd love to hear what you think!

A Thrifty Day

Monday I had a strong feeling about going to the thrift store and it's a good thing that I did because I got some good stuff!!

There was a lot I wanted to get but had to put back also due to lack of funds. I think I picked well though.

Election Day

Why am I up so darn early? Well, because for some reason we have to have a screening at work at 10AM today! Which means I have to be at work by 8:30AM. That's right 8:30AM for a movie theatre!!! Blasphemy!!

I actually haven't gone to sleep yet. I was ready for bed at 4:30 and by that point I thought it was pointless because I was going to wake up at 6 so I could vote before work. I tend to be much more grumpy when I sleep for a short amount of time than when I don't sleep at all.

I'd like to encourage everyone to go out and vote today regardless of which direction you'd like to see the country go in!! It is the most important thing that you will do today! Unless you're performing heart surgery or something like that. In which case that may bump voting down to #2.

Happy Halloween!

How was everyone's halloween? Jon and I had a fun time even though most of our plans fell through. We didn't end up going to any parties or doing anything wacky and wild, but we did pass out candy!

It was our first time passing out candy in a house. Our house was so scary, we definitely succeeded in our goal to be the scary house on the block!












Isn't Jon's Wario pumpkin awesome? You can't tell from the pictures, but we had a strobe light running and we also had scary music playing. Our old man scarecrow a.k.a 'grandpa' did a great job of scaring the kids! Jon worked like a dog making dinner. We always have homemade macaroni and cheese on halloween. It's a tradition that I grew up with. Well, I was working until 6, so it was Jon's job to make the mac n' cheese. I came home and it looked great and I was so proud of my husband...and then I taste it and I realize that he used baking soda instead of flour!!! Ick!!! What a typical guy thing to do! Well, we bought more ingredients and we're going to try again tomorrow. This time I make the mac n' cheese.

Sorry for the lack of outfit pictures lately, my mom is in the hospital and between work, feeding her cats, and visiting her I haven't had much time to snap any pictures.

Here are a few from Saturday though. It was my last day at work for wearing my midnight shirt, so I had to document it. Now it's back to the bowling shirts, noooooo!!! Haha, okay they aren't THAT bad, but I they aren't exactly flattering either. I think they look fine on the guys, but the girls need something more fitting. I wish we could just wear black button downs like in Chicago. Oh well.







Oh yeah, look at my new boots! They are so comfy, I love them! Perfect for fall, winter, and early spring! I plan on getting a lot of use out of them.
